We're not lawyers - this is a plain explanation of what data YardWatch collects and what happens to it.

What We Collect
- Email and password - your password is never stored as plain text, only a one-way hash of it.
- First name - optional, just used to say hi on your dashboard.
- Your watchlist - the makes/models/year ranges you've asked to be alerted about.
- "Spotted" marks - if you check off a vehicle as seen in person, we save that plus when you checked it off. These are automatically deleted 60 days after you mark them.
- Notification preferences - which email types you've turned on or off.
- Search terms - what people search for on the dashboard, saved without any link back to who searched, so we can see overall demand (e.g. "a lot of people are searching for Subaru Foresters").
How We Use It
To run your dashboard, your watchlist, and your email alerts. Search terms and watchlist demand are also looked at in aggregate (counts only, not tied to individual people) to understand what vehicles people are generally looking for.
Who We Share It With
We use a small number of outside services to run the site, and they see the data needed to do their job:
- SendGrid - sends the alert emails.
- Cloudflare - handles our domain and the security check on the login/signup pages.
- Render - hosts the website and the database.
- Sentry - tells us when something on the site breaks, so we can fix it. It only sees data related to the error itself, not your personal info.
We don't sell your personal information to advertisers or anyone else. If YardWatch is ever sold or transferred to a new owner, account data would transfer with it, still covered by this policy or one just as protective.
Cookies
YardWatch sets a cookie to keep you logged in for up to 30 days. Cloudflare's security check on login/signup may also set a cookie to confirm you're not a bot.
Your Choices
You can turn off any or all email types from your Settings page, or use the one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. To delete your account or request a copy of your data, email yardwatchadmin@gmail.com.
Built With AI
YardWatch's code was built with the help of AI coding tools. No AI is involved in deciding what shows up in your alerts or search results - that's plain, predictable matching against what the yards actually have listed.
Kids
YardWatch isn't intended for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from kids.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes. We'll update the date at the top when we do.
